The Earth Simulator

The Earth Simulator is currently the world's most powerful supercomputer. The appearance of this 400 million $ supercomputer has been a shock for the USA and its supercomputing hegemony. It was built by NEC and finished only a few months before I came to Japan. I made my internship in NEC's High-Performance Computing Group, which has been assigned to the construction of the Earth Simulator. I am proud that I was given the chance to work in one of the world's best research teams.

Here my NEC co-workers and I are in front of the Earth Simulator. The Earth Simulator is standing in the second floor of its own building. The first floor is only used to have enough space for the 2800km of cable that connect its components. From left to right: Shoji, me, Martijn and Pascal.

The modules that have been used for the construction of the Earth Simulator.

On this picture I'm standing next to the Top500 Certificate which verifies the Earth Simulator's leading position.
